Denbighshire Council appoints new Chair and Vice Chair

A Rhyl councillor has been elected as Chair of Denbighshire County Council.

Cllr Alan James who represents the Rhyl West ward, will take the reins for the coming municipal year.  His Consort during his term of office will be his wife Mrs Win Mullen-James.

He was elected during the ceremony held at the Annual County Council meeting which was held virtually and at County Hall, Ruthin.

His chosen charities for the coming year are Macmillan Cancer Support and the Rhyl RNLI.

The new Chair will start his charity support, Covid restrictions permitting, with a Lands End to John O’Groats cycle challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support next month.

Cllr James paid tribute to outgoing Chair Cllr Meirick Lloyd Davies, who took on an extra year in the post due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cllr James said: “I’d like to thank Meirick for all the hard work he has done over the last two years. He’s a very hard act to follow and I hope I’m going to be as successful and as active as he has been.

“It’s a great honour and a privilege to represent Denbighshire in my role as Chair of the county. I thank you all for your support as we continue to work hard for our residents in this beautiful area of North Wales.”

Cllr Christine Marston who represents the Tremeirchion ward was also elected Vice Chair.
