56% of Welsh pet owners researched the cost of pet insurance before getting their pet
Pet ownership is on the rise across the UK, and Wales is seeing a significant increase in the number of people welcoming pets into their homes. According to a recent survey by Petplan, which gathered insights from over 2,000 pet owners in the UK, before bringing a pet home, many Welsh residents did their research.
The survey found that 56% of respondents in Wales researched the cost of pet insurance beforehand, while 50% looked into their pets’ dietary needs to ensure they could provide the proper care.
Additionally, Welsh pet owners are engaging in important conversations about pet ownership responsibilities. Over half (51%) of the respondents in Wales said they discussed the decision to get a pet with family or household members, carefully considering who would take on the various aspects of pet care.
However despite these preparations, 23% of Welsh pet owners wished they had considered the cost and logistics of managing pet care while they are away, and 20% wish they had thought more about how their lifestyle might change with a pet.
Despite this a strong 83% of Welsh participants believe they were adequately prepared for the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Petplan’s vet expert, Brian Faulkner, FRCVS, says “preparing for pet parenthood is as essential as it is exciting. It is encouraging to see that British pet parents are taking the necessary steps to ensure they’re ready for the joys and responsibilities of pet ownership.
