Tŷ’r Ddraig (Dragon House), a Wrexham-based TV production company launched in 2023, is celebrating the success of their BBC Daytime series, ‘Lost and Found in the Lakes’. The show, hosted by Helen Skelton, features a team of experts searching for precious items lost by the public in the Lake District.
The series has garnered impressive viewership, with 1.5 million tuning in for the first episode. Ben Smith, Tŷ’r Ddraig’s Creative Director, noted, “We actually got the first set of viewing figures in from the launch and they are brilliant. 1.5 million viewers of episode 1. Which means it won its timeslot across all channels and was 22% up on the BBC slot average. Overall that’s really good for a new series launch.”
Smith, a Wrexham native with nearly 25 years in the television industry, expressed his long-held desire to establish a production company in North Wales to bolster the local creative community. He stated, “I’ve worked in TV for nearly 25 years but have always wanted to set up a production company in North Wales and help grow the creative community here.”
The company strategically recruited crew members from North Wales and conducted post-production at Rondo Media in Caernarfon, emphasizing their commitment to regional talent. Smith highlighted the significance of securing a 16-episode commission shortly after the company’s inception in June 2023, attributing support from the Workerbee and Banijay group as instrumental in their establishment in Wales.
Wrexham County Councillor Hugh Jones, Lead Member responsible for Tŷ Pawb, praised the company’s achievements, stating, “It’s brilliant to see another local company helping to grow Wrexham’s flourishing creative community. Congratulations to Ben and the team on this terrific success. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from Tŷ’r Ddraig very soon.”
