Rhyl Promenade Relaunched: Vital Coastal Upgrade Boosts Regeneration and Access

Prom

Denbighshire County Council has officially reopened the reimagined Rhyl Promenade, following a major upgrade as part of the Central Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme.

Key enhancements include:

  • Elevated promenade: The surface has been raised to enhance flood resilience while preserving accessibility.

  • Improved access and safety: Freshly installed ramps, precast steps, handrails, and flood gates enhance usability and security.

  • Infrastructure upgrades: New drainage systems, surfacing, and street lighting strengthen the promenade’s resilience and appeal.

  • Enhanced public realm: Updated street furniture elevates the overall space, supporting long-term community enjoyment.

Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of the Council, highlighted the wider impact:

“The work … has been vital and necessary to protect our coastline, homes and businesses … The project is almost complete. This work is part of the larger regeneration plans for Rhyl.”

With this improvement now live—and with Drift Park and the Strand Cinema opening soon—the upgraded promenade is set to become a cornerstone of Rhyl’s regeneration strategy, boosting tourism, footfall, and confidence in the town centre.
