Can you make the difference? Non-operational roles in mountain rescue
Can you make the difference? North Wales Mountain Rescue Association (NWMRA) is looking for people who can volunteer a few hours a week to help support our life saving work – and it doesn’t involve climbing mountains in all weathers!
In addition to the volunteer responders who form the members of our nine teams, we also require specialist skills from time to time to help with day-to-day business and oversight. This includes in roles such as administration, financial management and fund raising, communications, and technical matters.
You do not need to be a mountain rescue responder to support us with these roles – just share our passion for the great outdoors and helping people to enjoy and benefit from it safely, and be willing to volunteer a couple of hours of your time each week to achieve that.
We currently have two volunteer roles available, and both are key to our core purpose.
Firstly, we are looking for a Social Media Officer to help us continue to take important safety messaging to a wide range of communities.
Demand on mountain rescue teams continues to rise year on year, with almost two thirds of callouts in North Wales involving people not always fully understanding the risks involved, and the preparation required before setting off on a day’s adventure. This creates significant demands on our mountain rescue volunteers who give their time to train and develop the skills and expertise they need to then locate and rescue people who find themselves in difficulties.
Communications are key to sharing information which can help people to make more informed decisions before setting out on a day’s trek. Your work as Social Media Officer will not only help to keep people from risk of harm, contribute to reducing demand on our volunteer teams, but could also potentially help to save a life.
We are also looking for a Regional Grants Officer to help support the fund raising which is vital to our work.
While you have probably heard of mountain rescue and know what we do – chances are you probably don’t realise that we are a Charity, staffed entirely by volunteers, and dependent on fund raising to do the important work that we do.
The funds we raise pay for our life saving equipment and the training that we need for the specialist skills to help people who are injured, lost, or stuck in some of the most remote and rugged terrain. Without this fund raising, we would simply not be able to do the work that we do.
We are looking for someone with experience in grant writing, fund raising, or related administration who can support the Fund Raising Officers in our nine teams in applying for grants, and in managing and responding to enquiries from potential funders, as well as explore options for grant opportunities.
So why volunteer for mountain rescue? In return for donating a few hours a week of your time, you will become part of an enthusiastic team of volunteers who are passionate about the benefits of enjoying the great outdoors, and keen to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to do this safely. And you will also have the satisfaction of knowing that the hours you have volunteered will contribute to saving lives.

Details of how to apply are also included on the website, and the closing date for applications is Monday 22 June 2026.
