Tech firm raises £3,520 for Prostate Cancer UK at special Hotel Wrexham rugby-themed event
Connectus Business Solutions raised £3,520 for Prostate Cancer UK during a special fundraising event at Hotel Wrexham, featuring rugby legend Sir Ian McGeechan.
The legendary former Lions coach shared his personal experience of battling prostate cancer at an event that brought together 62 guests, to raise awareness of the disease and highlight the importance of early detection and diagnosis.
Cash was raised on the night during events including an auction of sporting memorabilia with every penny raised going directly to Prostate Cancer UK.
The occasion was particularly poignant as it marks a year since Sir Ian announced he had been given the all-clear following his diagnosis and treatment.
The former Scotland international and British & Irish Lions coach spoke candidly about his experience, offering guests a personal insight into his journey and the importance of encouraging more men to take their health seriously.
Sir Ian also entertained attendees with stories from his extraordinary rugby career, reflecting on some of the memorable moments, characters and experiences that have made him one of the sport’s most respected figures.
Speaking at the event, Sir Ian said it was vital that more was done to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection and diagnosis. He added that it was wonderful to be part of such a fantastic event supporting the cause.
Guests enjoyed a British-themed menu at Hotel Wrexham, providing the perfect setting for an evening that combined fundraising, personal reflection and sporting stories.
The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors Elavade, Heimdal, Glu Digital, Magnify PR and Dropjaw Ventures, whose contributions helped make the evening such a success.
Roy Shelton, CEO of Connectus Business Solutions, said: “It was a great night bringing together clients, partners, prospective clients, friends, family and staff. Special thanks to Sir Ian for attending, taking part in an interview and donating a unique piece of rugby memorabilia to support the fundraising effort.”
The item was an A4-sized signed drawing featuring Fran Cotton, Martin Johnson CBE and Sir Ian himself, commemorating the 1997 British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa. Only 300 were produced, making the donation a particularly special addition to the evening.
Steven Hesketh, co-owner of Hotel Wrexham and founder of Savvy Collective, said: “It was fantastic to play host to such a wonderful event, bringing people together for an important cause and helping raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.”
The £3,520 raised will go in full to Prostate Cancer UK, supporting the charity’s work to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for men affected by the disease.
