Backing Wrexham’s Women in Business

Ambitious women from North Wales were given help to boost their business growth plans thanks to Lloyds Banking Group and Business Wales.

An event, held at Wrexham Enterprise Hub, was dedicated to helping female entrepreneurs overcome the barriers to setting up a successful business.

Attended by 50 local women, the afternoon featured talks from experts on a diverse range of topics such as innate resilience and personal brand, whilst stalls hosted by digital and business support mentors provided access to helpful resources and information.

Research from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor found that less than six per cent of women in the UK are actively engaged with entrepreneurial activity. The aim of this event was to encourage women in North Wales to start up small enterprises and connect them with organisations and networks that can help them. This event was in support of the Welsh Government’s initiative to help entrepreneurial women in Wales.

Speakers and stall holders came from a wide range of organisations including Business Wales, the Federation of Small Businesses, Superfast Business Wales, That Girl Training, True Resilience and Steer IT Solutions.

Carys Williams, Lloyds Banking Group’s Ambassador for Wales, said:

“The untapped potential from budding businesswomen could have a huge impact on the Welsh economy. If female entrepreneurial activity matched the same level as men’s, it could be worth £180 billion to the UK by 2025.

“That’s why it’s so important for local women to get dedicated guidance and support and these types of events are just one way to provide it. Our aim is to help local entrepreneurial women to establish a likeminded community, build support networks and create a relaxed forum where they can get answers to any burning questions.”

Economy Minister Ken Skates said:

“I’m pleased this event supported by Business Wales was a success. We want to see more women start up businesses and I want to ensure that we help them overcome any barriers to achieving this. The event in Wrexham is part of this drive and backs the approach and Good Practice Guide we have developed with business support organisation to improve how we can help women business owners in Wales. I hope all those who attended have been inspired and equipped to move forward with their ambitions.”
