Cancer charity receives huge boost from Redrow Homes
Staff at Redrow’s Flintshire headquarters have raised an outstanding £17,500 for cancer charity Maggie’s.
Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support for people living with cancer, with one of 20 regional centres based at Clatterbridge, Wirral.
The organisation was chosen by the head office team of home builder Redrow as their charity of the year for 2018/19. Staff have been busy hosting quiz nights, auctions and have contributed with ‘Dress Down Fridays’ throughout the year.
Celia Williams, engagement manager for Redrow Homes, said:
“Maggie’s Merseyside is such a wonderful cause and it’s been our pleasure to raise funds throughout the year to support its invaluable work. We’re proud of all our employees who have taken part in our fundraising activities and delighted to have been able to donate a final total of £17,500. We look forward to seeing Maggie’s continue their fantastic work in providing care and support to those living with cancer.”
Kathy Wright, centre head for Maggie’s said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled that Redrow chose to support us as their charity of the year and the £17,500 they raised will make a significant difference to our centre.
“It’s a huge year for us, as we look to raise a ‘Million for Maggie’s’ to help us open a new centre here on the Wirral, so the support of Redrow comes at a really important time for us. It’s only through the generosity of our supporters, like Redrow, that my team and I can provide support to anyone affected by cancer in the area.”
Built in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Maggie’s Merseyside is a warm and welcoming place, with qualified professionals on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
They support anyone affected by cancer living in the Wirral, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and further afield. Since the centre opened in 2014 Maggie’s has supported almost 70,000 visits. The demand continues to build and they have now outgrown the current centre.
Maggie’s is preparing for two new centres in the region and the ‘Million for Maggies’ campaign is aiming to raise £1million for running costs for when a planned new permanent centre opens on the existing Clatterbridge site.
Work on a new purpose-built permanent Maggie’s Centre at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Wirral will soon commence. Funding for the new building has been donated by the Steve Morgan Foundation, which is making its largest ever capital investment of £5 million towards two new Maggie’s centres, the permanent facility based at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Wirral to be followed by a new centre at the Royal Liverpool Hospital campus.
The Steve Morgan Foundation was founded back in 2001 by Steve Morgan, who also established Redrow Homes and has recently retired as the company’s non‐executive Chairman.
