DENBIGHSHIRE — Local residents and visitors are being encouraged to come together in Prestatyn to confront the growing issue of marine litter affecting the North Wales coastline.

Organised by Denbighshire County Council, the event will focus on raising awareness of the environmental impact of litter along the coast and engaging community members in practical steps to reduce pollution and protect marine habitats.

The session is open to people of all ages and aims to empower participants with information about how marine litter affects local beaches and seas — including impacts on wildlife, water quality, and the wider coastal ecosystem. It also offers a chance for volunteers to get involved in organised activities designed to make a tangible difference to Prestatyn’s shorelines.

Beach clean-ups and related activities have become increasingly important, with initiatives elsewhere having collected data and litter from popular stretches of sand to help prevent harmful debris from entering the marine environment.

Council officers will be on hand throughout the event to share guidance on safe litter collection, responsible disposal, and ways households and businesses can reduce single-use plastics and other waste that often ends up on beaches.

Denbighshire County Council has a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement, and events like this form part of its ongoing efforts to protect the county’s natural resources.
