Council Chairman visits winners of Denbighshire Schools Art Competition

Denbighshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Arwel Roberts, visited the winners of his schools art competition which was launched in partnership with one of his nominated charities, NSPCC Cymru/Wales, North Wales Hub, Prestatyn. The Chairman visited the schools on Monday and presented certificates, medals and prizes for their outstanding efforts.

The competition, entitled WELLNESS – ‘What Makes You Happy?’ aimed to raise awareness of the NSPCC’s Childline service, and asked pupils under 12 to draw what made them feel happy.

After receiving over 560 entries, the winning schools were announced on the 6th of February.

The successful schools included Ysgol Christchurch, Ysgol y Parc, Ysgol Twm o’r Nant, Ysgol Melyd and Denbigh High School, with Bodnant Community School receiving a special merit.

The winning artwork showed a variety of situations, including a portrait of the beach, a drawing of a school library and a scene depicting a walk up a hill during sunset.

The winner from Ysgol y Parc has been invited to attend a small presentation at the Full Council Meeting on Tuesday 28 February 2023, in the Council Chamber, Ruthin to present their work.

Denbighshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Arwel Roberts said:

“It is brilliant to be able to meet some of the talented artists behind some of the amazing artwork that was submitted for this competition.

I am glad we could use this competition to raise awareness of the NSPCC’s Childline service, as it is a vital lifeline for every child and young person to be able to talk about their mental health.”
