There are so many aspects to entering the world of work, housing, and adult life in general, that it can be overwhelming and confusing when we are young. Two north Wales councils have collaborated to create their ‘Future Booster’ events which are designed to help young people to take control of their future. Young people aged 18-25 will be invited to come along to the first of these Future Booster days which will take place later this month.

Denbighshire County Council and Conwy County Borough Council have teamed together to deliver a series of events, with the first of these starting on the 16th of March 2023 in Rhyl and on the 29th of March 2023 in Colwyn Bay. The aim of these events is to provide advice and information to young people on issues which they face on a daily basis. It is hoped that these events will help prepare young people in order that they may be able to make informed decisions on matters affecting their current situation and their plans for the future. The councils’ teams look forward to engaging and re-engaging with young people, both to help guide them in the direction of the help they need and to listen and learn about issues affecting them. Some of the many issues covered will include:

  • Finances and Benefits
  • Housing
  • Jobs, Skills and Training
  • Wellbeing
  • Healthy Living

The Rhyl event will run between 11am and 4pm and the Colwyn Bay event will run between 10am and 4pm, with refreshments and food available on both days for those taking part. For anyone who wishes to take part in the first event, it will be held at the Rhyl Youth Centre, East Parade, Rhyl on 16th March.

Gill German, Lead Member for Education, Children and Family Services, and Deputy Leader of Denbighshire County Council says: “This event is the first of what, we hope, will be a series of events across Denbighshire and Conwy providing young people with information and advice on a number of issues including Education, Training, Wellbeing and Finances.  The Engagement & Progression Teams, alongside the Employability services from both local authorities are looking forward to supporting young people with issues that they are facing daily, and we want to use this event as an opportunity to signpost young people to the best and most appropriate support.

Gavin Roberts, Engagement & Progression Lead Officer for Denbighshire County Council goes on to say: “We hope to re-engage with young people whom we have lost touch with over the past few years and ensure that we hear what they have to say about issues they are facing so that we can expand and improve the support we offer to them now and in the future.”

The events will be hosted by Denbighshire County Council and Working Denbighshire, in partnership with the Conwy Youth Service Progress Project and Conwy Employment Hub.

Following these opening events, more events are also being planned to take place during the summer months.
