Volunteers are being sought to help carry out test purchases to ensure retailers are complying with the law.

Denbighshire County Council’s Trading Standards team is looking for volunteers to help enforce laws in relation to age restricted sales, such as alcohol, knives, cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

Volunteers can be aged between 14 and 16 years, but not older than 16 years and 6 months.

Emlyn Jones, the Council’s Head of Planning, Public Protection and Countryside Services, said: “Test purchase exercises are an effective way for Trading Standards to ensure retailers are complying with the law.

“We are looking for volunteers to assist with test purchasing operations, where they will be asked to enter shops and attempt to purchase age restricted products.

“They will behave as ordinary customers, under the supervision of a trading standards officer.”

Before any volunteer takes part they, along with their parent / guardian, will be fully briefed on all aspects of the process and potential outcomes.
