Denbighshire Libraries host Digital Bike sessions as part of Carers Week
As part of carers week (5-11 June), Digital Communities Wales, run by Cwmpas, have been touring their Digital Bike around Denbighshire’s Libraries in partnership with Denbighshire County Council’s Talking Points.
The bike has been at St Asaph, Rhyl and Rhuddlan Libraries during the week, and has allowed carers and the cared for to discover the streets of Wales and beyond on the bike.
This partnership has allowed carers to access information at the various talking points, as well as have a go on the bike.
The bike uses ‘Google Street View’ and lets users virtually cycle anywhere that Google maps covers. ‘Google Street View’ allows users to see the streets they love throughout the years with the ‘see more dates’ feature, meaning users can go back in time and cycle.
This service has been used at care homes, and has been beneficial to the residents as they can go back to the old streets where they grew up on.
The bike has also been successful with people who are receiving physiotherapy.
The bike has been in use for around 5 years, and was recently at the National Eisteddfod in Llandovery.
Councillor Elen Heaton, Lead Member for Health and Social Care said:
“I think it’s great that whilst accessing vital information, carers have the exciting opportunity to discover the digital streets on the Bike as part of Carers Week.
“Carers play a crucial role in our community, and it is extremely important that we recognise the huge contribution they make to Denbighshire.
“We all have a role to play in raising awareness of caring and making sure carers are able to access the information and support they need”.
