During the month of February, libraries across Denbighshire will be celebrating LGBT+ History Month and this year’s theme, Medicine.

To celebrate, Rhyl Library will be holding a special LGBT+ History event on Wednesday 28th February, from 10am to 2pm.

The event will include a number of fascinating talks from guest speakers, and will present attendees with the opportunity to speak to people from local organisations, such as North East Wales Archives, Working Denbighshire, British Transport Police and Unique Transgender Network.

Jenny-Anne Bishop OBE will give a talk about the history of gender services in Wales.

There will also be an entertaining talk about the Ladies of Llangollen through the eyes of their faithful friend and housekeeper, Mary Caryll.

Throughout the month there are displays of LGBTQ+ novels and non-fiction reading within the county’s libraries.

Councillor Julie Matthews, Lead Member for Corporate Strategy, Policy and Equalities said:

“Libraries are inclusive and safe spaces for all. This is an important month for many residents in Denbighshire, and I am glad to see that our libraries will be hosting a special event to raise awareness and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s history and promote equality”.
