Elite Systems supplies modular classroom solution for Isle of Anglesey schools

The Isle of Anglesey County Council has appointed bespoke modular construction specialist Elite Systems to provide a two-classroom unit to Ysgol Morswyn in Holyhead and a one-classroom unit to Ysgol Pencaernisiog in Ty Croes.

The modular buildings at Ysgol Morswyn and Ysgol Pencaernisiog both comprise nursery space, after-school facilities, WCs for infants and staff, storage, kitchens, offices, and staff rooms, as well as an entrance lobby.

Elite Systems built both classroom units in its West Yorkshire factory, ensuring the company’s high-quality standards are met and the classrooms achieve the required acoustic and thermal insulation performance levels.

The units will then be transported to Anglesey to be finished on-site; installation began on 5th August 2019, ensuring the new units are ready for use at the start of the new term in September.

Both schools required a quick turnaround for these nursery classroom buildings in response to a funding commitment made by the Welsh Government to provide 30 hours’ nursery provision.  The government has made capital funds available to local authorities, with a requirement to have this provision made available very quickly.

Elite was appointed through the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) Modular Building Solutions RM6014 framework.  Crown Commercial Service supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services.

Commenting on the appointment, Elite Systems’ commercial manager Jason Bowker said: “One of the key advantages of off-site modular construction is the ability to design each project to the exact specifications required – for example, in the case of these two units, both the single-classroom space and the double-classroom are achievable within the required timeframe, and will be ready for the school to accommodate children for the new school year.”

Owain J. Jones-Evans, project manager for Isle of Anglesey County Council, added: “We opted to use the framework to select the supplier for these projects thanks to the reassurance provided by knowing Elite is a preferred supplier, and also the ease of sourcing a supplier that the framework provides.”

“Elite’s solution matched our requirement perfectly, and I am delighted that Jason and his team were able to deliver the units in time for both schools to open their new nursery facilities in September.”
