Improvements made to Rhyl nature reserve walkway

Visitors to a Rhyl nature reserve can now put their best foot forward on a new walkway.

Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Services is currently carrying out a programme of work at Brickfield Pond Nature Reserve to improve the area both for wildlife and the local community.

Current ongoing work includes the regeneration of a community orchard area, development of new habitat sites to support water vole populations and the clearing several trees mainly black thorn that have died to improve viewpoints for the public.

This month, work has seen the replacement of the boardwalk on the northern side of the reserve to improve the route for the community who use the path on a regular basis.

The decision was taken to carry out the work as the old boardwalk had become rotten.

Local students have also had a hand in helping improve the Rhyl nature reserve area for the surrounding community.

Students from Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl have repaired the gate which separates the college car park and Brickfield Pond Nature Reserve.

Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We are extremely grateful for the local community’s support while our Countryside Service with the help of volunteers continue to work to improve this fantastic area in Rhyl for nature and community wellbeing.”
