Measures introduced to stop vandalism at public toilets in Denbighshire

Denbighshire County Council has taken action following incidents of vandalism at a number of toilet PODs.

Damage has been reported at PODs in Rhyl, Prestatyn and Corwen. The vast majority of the vandalism is happening between the hours of 6pm and 9pm.

The Council, has therefore made the decision to bring forward the closure time of the PODs from 9pm to 6pm. The new closing time will be kept under review.

North Wales Police are being informed of all reported incidents and the Council has asked for local police patrols in the three towns to monitor the facilities.

Councillor Julian Thompson-Hill, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Finance, Performance and Strategic Assets, said: “We thank the public for their cooperation while we work to resolve this unfortunate situation.”

“The Council will keep this situation under review, but unfortunately we needed to take action to try and prevent these issues, as they undermine the sustainability of the service and result in PODs being out of use completely for periods of time whilst we repair them.”
