New Denbigh transport route powered by electric

Electric power will cover a new extension to a Denbigh demand responsive public transport scheme.

Denbighshire County Council and Transport for Wales have worked together to extend the current Fflecsi scheme across Denbigh.

Fflecsi 77 will start operation on July 17 to the southwest of Denbigh, as well as to the northwest and northeast of the town. The current area covering Denbigh town centre, as well as the existing zones in Ruthin and Prestatyn remain unchanged.

As part of the Council’s Climate Emergency declaration, Ruthin’s scheme launched last year with the country’s first-ever zero emission 100 per cent battery-operated 16-seat minibus thanks to support from the Welsh Government and the Welsh Government Energy Service.

A second electric vehicle (EV) will now power the new Denbigh 77 route.

The Council has introduced a wheelchair-accessible Nissan Dynamo E-NV200 EV micro bus to be used use as part of the scheme.

Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The Council is working hard to reduce reliance on fossil fuel powered vehicles were appropriate. We are really pleased to be able to introduce a second EV to drive Fflecsi in partnership with Transport for Wales in the county following the success of the Ruthin vehicle.

“Fflecsi offers a solution that can tailor passenger needs much more specifically. The extension in Denbigh has allowed for a greater range of pick-ups and destinations.”
