Redrow’s early Christmas present for local community in North East Wales
Christmas gifts have arrived early for a variety of deserving causes in North East Wales – thanks to Redrow’s community fund initiative.
The award-winning housebuilder invited people and groups in or near Penyffordd – where its new Millstone View development is situated – to apply for financial assistance as part of a commitment to ensure that as neighbourhoods grow, communities continue to thrive.
The Penyffordd Community Fund earmarked £10,000 for projects in Penyffordd, Penymynydd and surrounding villages, with applications spanning schools, churches, sports and recreational activity groups and youth organisations set to make a tremendous impact to neighbourhoods.
With a high number of worthy applications received, deciding how to share funding was always likely to be a difficult decision, with 14 causes eventually chosen – providing an early Christmas present in the process.

- Penyffordd & Penymynydd Community Bowling Club
- Hope Community Library
- Pen-y-Ffordd Flower Club
- Penyffordd Scout Group
- Penyffordd and Penymynydd Parent and Toddler Group
- 1st Penyffordd Brownies
- St John the Baptist School
- Penyffordd Junior Football Club
- Ramblers Cymru (local volunteer branch)
- Broughton Primary School
Caroline Thompson-Jones, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (NW), said:
“It’s been lovely to be able to announce a Christmas gift of community cash to deserving causes in need of funding to maintain the amazing work they do or support their achievements.
“Everyone who applied for our Penyffordd Community Fund has helped contribute to make the area such a great place to live and it was tough choosing the beneficiaries of our funds.
“We’ve tried to make the money go as far as possible to help a real mix of people from all walks of life and we’re incredibly excited to see the impact it will have around Penyffordd next year.”
Redrow’s voluntary fund is in addition to an extensive package of community benefits already attached to its planning consent for 186 two, three and four-bedroom homes off Chester Road. This will include 27 affordable properties within the development itself and a contribution of £450,000 towards affordable housing elsewhere.
Redrow is also providing £930,000 towards local education, which will benefit Penyffordd Primary School and Castell Alun High School. In addition, the developer will provide and manage greenspace areas and contribute to highways improvements in the area.
Millstone View is adjacent to a previous Redrow development, Heritage Park, in Penymynydd. As well as 85 new homes, the completed development created the new White Lion Nature Reserve, whose ponds, wildflower meadows and walkways were cultivated by Redrow and are now managed and run by national wildlife charity, the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) Trust.
