Ruthin electric bus to feature during Wales Climate Week
A pioneering electric powered Ruthin scheme will feature as part of Wales Climate Week.
The Ruthin Fflecsi service was launched during Spring 2022 to provide a demand responsive public transport scheme in the town and surrounding area.
Introduced by Denbighshire County and Transport for Wales, it is also operated by the country’s first-ever zero emission 100 per cent battery-operated 16-seat minibus. This is thanks to support from the Welsh Government and the Welsh Government Energy Service.
The electric bus will feature during the Wales Climate Week talk ‘Councils unlocking local climate action – Wales’ Race to Zero on November 22.
Part of the talk featuring the Ruthin service, will discuss how the public sector is already stepping up to decarbonise their own operations by 2030.
Denbighshire County Council declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency in 2019 and is also committed to seeking to become a Net Carbon Zero and Ecologically Positive Council by 2030.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Wales Climate Week is extremely important for mapping out how we can all continue to increase our efforts to tackle climate change for the benefit of our future generation.
“I am pleased that our Ruthin Fflecsi scheme powered by an electric minibus will feature as it has been a fantastic project to introduce in the town to showcase how electric power can deliver green public transport opportunities.”
