Winners of Bee Friendly logo competition revealed

The winners of a competition to design a ‘buzzing’ logo have been revealed.

Denbighshire County Council invited schoolchildren aged between 5 and 14 to design a logo after it achieved Bee Friendly status from the Welsh Government.

Bee Friendly is a scheme which aims to make Wales a pollinator-friendly country.

The overall winner out of more than 300 entries was Chloe Rebecca Morris, aged 10, from Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch in Llanrhaeadr, with Reggie Dixon of Ysgol Caer Drewyn, Corwen, and Steffan Davies of Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch joint winners for the foundation section (age 5-7).

Aimee Archer-Jones; 14, from Rhyl High School, won the 11-14 age group prize.

Chloe will now have her logo printed on all Bee Friendly materials and has been given a winner’s certificate while Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch will be turned into a Bee Friendly-zone.

The schools of the other category winners will also be given help to create Bee Friendly areas.

Cllr Tony Thomas, Denbighshire’s lead member for the Environment, said:

“I’d like to congratulate all those who entered the competition, especially Chloe and the other winners. The standard of work was excellent and Chloe’s design really captured the spirit of the Bee Friendly scheme.

“Bees are vitally important to the eco system and as well as pollinating plants in gardens, parks and the wider countryside, they contribute to the wider environment. Supporting bees is part of our work to enhance and protect the county’s environment.”
