Denbighshire County Council has unveiled a new design for taxi vehicle plates and driver badges as part of efforts to modernise licensing identification and improve public safety across the county.

The updated plates and badges are being introduced for licensed hackney carriage and private hire vehicles operating within Denbighshire, with the council saying the redesign will make identification clearer and more secure for passengers, enforcement officers and businesses.

Officials say the refreshed design incorporates enhanced security features aimed at helping prevent fraudulent use and making it easier for customers to identify legitimate licensed operators.

The council added that the new style also reflects wider digital and operational improvements within licensing services, supporting more efficient enforcement and compliance processes across the local transport sector.

Taxi and private hire services remain an important part of the regional economy, particularly in rural and tourism-focused areas of North Wales where public transport options can be more limited.

Licensing teams say ensuring clear identification and high operational standards is essential for maintaining public confidence in the industry while supporting legitimate local operators.

Councillor Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said the updated plates and badges would help improve visibility and reassurance for passengers using licensed vehicles across the county.

He added that the redesign formed part of the council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining “high standards within the taxi licensing trade”.

The introduction of the new identification system comes as local authorities across the UK continue reviewing taxi licensing standards, vehicle safety requirements and enforcement procedures following wider regulatory changes within the transport sector.

Denbighshire County Council said existing licence holders would receive guidance regarding the transition to the new plates and badges over the coming months.
