A serving North Wales Police officer has been suspended from duty after being charged with a sexual offence following an alleged ‘upskirting’ incident in the Colwyn Bay area.

North Wales Police have confirmed that Detective Constable Harshey-Jones was arrested in connection with the incident, reported to have taken place on 11 June.

He faces charges of secretly taking photographs beneath clothing without permission, in violation of Sections 67A(1) and (4) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, commonly referred to as “upskirting.”

North Wales Police have since confirmed that DC Harshey-Jones was remanded to appear before the courts on 16 June and was later granted bail.

DC Harshey-Jones will now appear at Chester Crown Court for a plea hearing on 14 July, and the force has confirmed that the officer has been suspended from duties while the matter progresses through the criminal justice system.

In a statement, North Wales Police said:

“A serving North Wales Police officer has been suspended from duties following an incident in the Colwyn Bay area earlier this month.

“Detective Constable Harshey-Jones was arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Thursday, 11th June.

“He was later charged with the offence of operating equipment beneath clothing without consent, contrary to S.67A(1) and (4) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

“DC Harshey-Jones was subsequently remanded to appear at court 16 June and was granted bail.

“He will next appear for a plea hearing at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 14 July.

“Criminal proceedings in this case are now active, and it would be inappropriate for the force to comment further at this time.”

The charge remains an allegation at this stage, and the case is scheduled to return to Chester Crown Court on 14 July, where a plea hearing is expected to take place.
