Rhyl Marine Lake retains award for the 12th consecutive year
Marine Lake in Rhyl has achieved the Green Flag Community Award for the 12th consecutive year. The Green Flag Community Award is the benchmark for parks and green spaces which are managed with the help of volunteers.
The Green Flag is an award scheme delivered by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy and recognises sites that promote health and wellbeing, are safe and clean, have good management processes in place for biodiversity and have an emphasis on community involvement.
Marine Lake is just one of 280 sites across Wales to meet the high standards required for the award.
The Marine Lake Users Forum, a community group made up of representatives of the lake users, applied once again this year for the award, and have worked alongside Denbighshire County Council to ensure that the criteria were met.
Councillor Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport said:
“It is great to see that the green spaces around the Marine Lake have once again been given the recognition they deserve. To meet the criteria and be able to fly the flag for a 12th consecutive year is a true testament to the area and the hard work of the Forum and the volunteers who help make the Marine Lake such a beloved space.”
Bill Newton, Chairman of the Marine Lake Users Forum said:
“I have grown up with Rhyl Marine Lake, learning to sail on it over 55 years ago. To be awarded this Community Green Flag again, is something that we should all be very proud of and we must ensure that we all take great care of this wonderful asset in Rhyl.”
